Anyone on here owns and rides an FZ6? I'd like your input on it because I'm thinking about getting one for touring. I've been researching this bike and it just makes sense to me to get one for road trips and overnighters.

    Thanks,
    DaRRen.

I like mine quite a bit and the community around them is fanatical. I spent over 10 hours on mine one day and overall its pretty good to you compared to a super sport or even compared to the posistion of the new 250 which is quite upright itself. If you are serious about it keep in mind there is a pretty buzzy spot in the rev range at about 7000rpm which is right around 80mph in top gear(at least for the current gen FZ6R). The best part about the bike is the ability to customize per your need. Some bags, a taller windscreen, new sprocket, comfort seat, and bar risers(which mine comes with and an adjustable seat) and its a straight touring machine all for a few hundred bucks. If you want more sport in your machine it can swing the other way too, get a pipe, new rear shock, PC tune, and chop the fender and it gets pretty badass pretty quick. Like I said the community is fanatical and these bikes really can do many things, my only gripe is that the FZ1 is better.

Thanks! I was thinking of the older gen FZ6, 05-06...I like the naked look of that body style. I already have an 03 CBR600RR that I'm going to use for track so this bike will be my wekend ride and road trips. It's definitely a good mix between sport and touring.

A few other considerations. The price is low, the build quility is high, its a well established model, insurance is cheap, easy to maintain, good 2up ability. There are other models in that range but none are quite as well rounded if you ask me; do look around first though. Gaystroms are kind of on the up and up around here but since youre single (I think) stick with the FZ or youll never find a girl to ride with.

For touring, I like the power of a liter bike. Just stick it in a single gear and go, no buzzing, just humming along. That's one of the reasons the FZ1 is such a great bike, IMO.

Adam, I've actually looked around and even sat on Dan's and Logan's Vstroms....They're too high for me and you're right about the look of the FZ6.
    G money, will do.....
Vik, the liter bike is too much power and big for me (5'5", 150lbs). Plus I don't have the skillz to ride it like you do! See ya at the track soon!

Darren, long time no see buddy. The 650 strom is the way to go and it's not too tall for you, although you can lower it but I don't recommend it. The bike is bulletproof, comfortable for all day, whoops ass on crotchrockets and goes good everywhere. See you out there!

    geez that booty-exhaust looks fabulous!

now, if I only had 3300 to spend :( looking for a $300-400 negotiation

... and this is for the Sarge...

    2004 Yamaha FZ1 1000; Fazer 1000; black and silver - $4450 (Modesto, Ca)
    ... but no booty :(

so is that to say you regret your purchase, Stoppie? :(

Adam, do I have to teach you everything? Green Crocks and a Strom is the way to get the chicks. The combo screams confidence, and chicks love confidence. It also helps if you can ride the wheels off the thing too!!
