New Bike

Discussion in 'General Talk' started by ridgerunner00, Nov 10, 2009.

  1. Could not bring myself to drop the 12K-14K on the BMW.

Picked up a 2007 KLR650 with 4000 miles on it. Came with the Big Gun Evo Pipe and a Corbin Seat. Never been off road, near mint condition...$3,000.

...and I can keep my gsxr.

So I guess I won't be going over to the dark side after all.

First test ride will be Thursday up on The Ridge.

    ridgerunner,

That's a great deal on a KLR! Glad to hear you get to keep the gsxr, there is not one bike that does it all, that's why we need several...

  14. Very Happy

Short KLR650 review after 1000 miles:

The bike RIPS. So far I?ve tested it out on the following: Mosquito Ridge, Berryessa Lake Loop, Knoxville-Berryessa Road, Little Dragon, Cottonwood Road, Cherry Lake Road, Ponderosa Road, Colfax-Iowa Hill Road, Trail #1 and part of Trail #4. Most of these were ridden 2up. A handful of fire roads near Yosemite.

Tarmac: Feels light. Turns in quick. Solid once turned in. All I will ever need in the tight and medium tight twisties. Overall comfortable, but could use a better seat. The bike could use some more horsepower...but I only felt it when trying to stay with sport bikes (or when passing them). Heavy vibration when going faster than 85mph.

Dirt: Devours technical fire roads. Stable on gravel roads. OK in technical singletrack. I did Trail #1 at Sugar Pine with almost no issues (in the rain)...going slow. Part of trail#4 ? no issues. Although all I need in the dirt, you still feel the weight.

Overall: For 3K, I feel like a got an exceptional deal. Fun factor is off the chart. Rip pavement all morning, dirt all afternoon. Mosquito Ridge...Mexico...whatever. Parts are cheap and plentiful. I'M A HAPPY CAMPER.

    ;)

  18. riding

    Logan,

    When are we going riding?

I say we get Stoppie, Motodan...and anybody else on a dual sport, enduro, motard etc..etc...and head off into the great unknown...preferably with twisty goat trails and maybe a fire road (or 2).

Have you run the vstrom down Berryessa-Knoxville yet? There is a sweet dirt road that connects that to Cache Creek (hwy 16)....with only 2 creek crossings....? The gate was locked this weekend 4 miles in...but opens in the spring. Sweet road that traverses 2 major canyons. From the locked gate, it looked like the road dropped at least a couple thousand feet and then climbed out the other side, crossed a ridge, and disappeared into another drainage.....looked fun/challenging.

Anyway, lets get after it...real soon.

Definitely! I've ridden BK through to Morgan Valley Rd. on a sportbike. I think there are like seven creek crossings. I didn't realize there are multiple routes.

Just let me know when you want to go out man, usually weekends are good.

Carl, Dan and I were talking about doing a "supertard" ride. We need to make that happen.

Way to go Sean! My buddy Rick is a KLR suspension guru. He makes fork springs and the killer Moab shock for that bike.
