    Hey guys....

Thought I would just try this out and get some input from those of you who are the bike pros. For those who dont know me...I am a newbie girl rider and I just bought my first starter bike. '06 Ninja 250 aka Yoshi = )

My main concern is that when I am in neutral gear and just idling and I roll my throttle...my RPMS LAG when it comes back down to normal idle.

I.E. I rev the throttle up to 4500RPM while in neutral and its takes about 5 seconds for it to go back down to normal idle.

Does anyone have any ideas what I am looking at here?

My other issue is that I have not been able to practice much on my bike because of this problem. So, I need to find a way to get to WCM to get it looked at, but I don't want to end up not being able to stop at a stop sign if my bike wants to keep going when I want it to stop. LOL. That would not be a good thing... Mostly, I am just not comfortable riding it in the traffic streets yet without proper practice.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated..THANKS SCR!!!!

For the most part, if the throttle tries to run away just pull in the clutch. I'd be willing to take a look at it, but the simplest guess without a look would be that the throttle cables need lubed. I'd also be willing to ride the bike to WCM, or borrow a truck if no one else can help. Just let me know.

Is it REALLY 5 seconds Janice? Does this occur when the choke is on or off? The 250's carbs are known to float a bit, but 5 seconds sounds excessive. You should always disengage the clutch when coming to a stop anyways, so it shouldn't be much more than an annoyance than anything.

You can bring it by anytime, just let me know.

Before you take it to a shop, let somebody look at it first. It might be something easy that can be fixed in 2 minutes. Sounds like a sticky throttle cable, or maybe it's kinked or something. I can look at it this weekend if you cant find anyone before then.

ok...so maybe like 4 seconds..seriously. LOL. Choke is off. It happens when choke is on or off. I tried to play with it to see what happens. Maybe, I just dont know what to expect. But, Romney took a look at it and he doesnt know either?

CLEAN THE CARBS!!!! It sounds like the carbs are a bit gunked up and need a simple cleaning. A couple hours of work (removal, clean and install) and you should be good to go. Lubing all the cables would be a good thing to do, just in case.

How many miles are on the bike?

Rainy weekends are the best time to work on carbs, if you have a garage :)

+1 on gunk in the carbs, I think what you are describing is that you rev the bike in idle and it goes to 4500RPM, then you actually turn the throttle back off but the RPM's take a few seconds to come back down and the RPMs actually gradually crawl down to idle speed - in my humble opinion this is indicative of needing a carb cleaning.

Run some Seafoam fuel injector cleaner and gas stabilizer through it, about 1oz per gallon of gas I think. Try to run a full tank through, if that does not help, then maybe its time to take the carbs off and clean it, if that is the case take it to Logan, he apparently has spent some time wrenching on a Ninja 250.

It is also a good idea to have some sort of gas stabilizer with the fuel in the tank if your bike is not getting ridden for extended periods of time.

    Good luck!

Pinay, this guy knows what he's talking about... he put 20,000 miles on pne of his 250's in a little over 3 months... :)

  13. If you think it maybe the carbs and if it is it isn't gunked that bad, try running a can or two of Seafoam through the gas tank. It's available at most auto parts stores and will clean up the fuel system pretty good.

If you have the carb's cleaned your throwning money away. This of course is if the bike was runing when you bought it.
The 250 Ninga's do have a slow idle drop. They can be adjusted a bit to help how fast they drop though. A carb sync, may help also. This takes all of a half hour to do. But then again I work on more carb's than any thing else.

I could take a look at it for you..........

This is where I would go if I had it done. No doubt. Kurt has taken care of more carbs and riders than the wrecking yard and hospital ........

    Thanks Mike.

I'm not saying that the suggestion in the posts above are not correct, just saying you start with the simple things before going to the high dollar repairs.
Most of the time it's a simple repair or adjustments.

This is just a offer of help if you want it......won't cost you anything.

Yup, you can trust Kurt. Heb definitely knows what he's doing. And he's right, check out the easy stuff before you jump into extensive repairs.

Also, I have a truck and ramp if you end up having to haul it somewhere.

    Janice - Take a look here: http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_I_work_on_the_carbs?

I'm not sure if you've found the Ninja250.org site yet or not but the FAQ is the best on the internet and will walk you through the majority of the required maintenance for the bike.

If Kurt is willing to help you out then by all means go that route! If you need any 250 specific help though I'd be able to lend a hand.
