Mixing Oils - Ok To Do?

Need to add oil almost every ride, ok to add same weight but different brand?

 

What kind of bike??

You can mix synthetic with non synthetic with no problems. You can also mix wieghts with no issues. The important thing is just to have oil in the motor. Thru the years we have run almost every brand of oil, syn and non-syn and the ONLY oil related failures we experienced had to do with not having enough oil in the motor. Crotchies, check your oil level often, along with your tire pressures. Many KLR's had oil consumption problems from the start, check the KLR forums as some got it fixed under warranty. If it's your KLR, that is.

Apparently common to add up to a quart every 1000 miles if you ride the bike hard - which I do. I'm adding slightly less than that...also heard there was a mod that would fix this issue. So many mods...doing The Doo, Thermo Bob, and valves next weekend.

Yea it kinda sucks when you ride the shit out of your bikes $$$ but it's all about the maint +1 Motodan make it a HABIT oil,tire psi,chain

 

why are you asking about mixing oils ? does your bike use or leak oil ?

unless you're adding baby or cod liver oil

I have a 2001 KLR and I have to do the same thing. I can ride a few times and no problem then the next time, bam I need oil. Half a qurt or more is normal for mine. The biggest problem is the nasty smell (burning oil) while Riding behind it. I only have 20,000 (s)miles on her. I also need to do the 'doohicky' upgrade.

 

Mixing oils? What do you think all those Synthetics blends are? If you answered a "rip off" you win a pair of green crocks. Syn blends are typically about 85% non syn and 15% syn. If running a blend the one to go with is Maxima's syn blend which is 50/50 so you will get some of the synthetic's benefits. But I would run a full syn just for the warm fuzzy. Unless you get a new bike every 15K miles or so, then don't waste the money.
