I am just posting this as I was reflecting on something as I was cleaning my bike in the garage and am always happy that the day was so great with no disasters. When we are in the twisties , though not recommended there is passing of cars on double yellows. One thing to keep in mind when performing this practice is just look as far as you can see in the other lane and you might say "I can pass this car no problem" there is another factor, What if someone is on a bike coming the other way going as fast or even faster than you doing the same thing? The closure rate is incredible. I have seen some bonehead passes in my days , and in most cases people get away with it , but if you are on the other side of the road as a corner approaches you are asking for trouble. Just cause the guy in front of you made it does not mean you are going to. You can hang back and wait until it is safe then use the horsepower to catch up if that is what you need to do. this is a great rule . I'm still here because i do fallow that rule , seen enough and plus there is no trophy on the road , good point carl

ya know, that is one of my rules, never pass on a double yellow, and I almost never do it, but yes carl, there are times and situations where it is still safe, but I always make sure it is safe, I did it today on a straight strech of road coming back, but there was NO oncoming traffic, and it was straight so I could see for half a mile at least, not sure why that spot was a double yellow, but yes, dont do that, no double yellows cause it aint safe. btw, thank you carl. (O yea, I also broke another one of my rules, I hit 95 passin two cages in that one pass, cause I dont go over 70, but there is always those situations with safety, and horsepower, and they make the difference.)
I have to agree with sarge on this one. I don't pass on the double yellow, heck I don't even lane split. If something happens to me I not only have to answer my family and friends but to the AF and I just don't want that hassle of being investigated for a line of duty determination if I get injured.
Thanks Carl. Just another reason to be extra careful on the street. People just assume when passing a car that the oncoming car is the only danger, not thinking that a bike could be flinging around that car any second doing triple digits coming right at you. +1 kiddos. Riding crazy on the streets requires extreme awareness if you want to stay alive. Don't push your limits or take chances that aren't in your favor. Ride smart. There is no trophy at the end of the day, just smiles and good memories. Keep it that way. Thx for posting Carl.
Hell yeah brotha, i rather ride for a little more and not take a chance then have a few minutes less off my ride time and endanger myself. Just not worth it.:chillpill:
Great post Carl. Have to admit my double yellow passing is VERY limited like Sarge but I still wonder sometimes if it was really worth it. It would devistate me to go down doing something like that and look into my 4 year olds eyes and try to explain why I cant pick her up beacuse I was hurt. Children change you but doing it alone keeps priorities in check!!
