Damn. That really is a shame.... I'm not a fan of riding Buell motorcycles myself, but I hate to see any American Company that is trying to take on the Japanese sportbike market fail. From an engineering standpoint, Erik Buell had some very innovative technology in his bikes. Stuff that really does work, it just hasn't been accepted by the public because his bikes don't "look" the way a sportbike should look. ....and they are plagued with that shitty Harley Davidson lump they call an engine... This sucks.
It's about time. The only way they could try to compete was to let them run an 1125 in a 600 class. Pretty pathetic way to claim a championship. Worse yet, the AMA was getting ready to let them bend the rules even farther for next year. I'm glad Erik or someone finally realized that enough was enough. But they do make a nice coffee table or ottoman when crunched into a little block. G, only the 1125 motor was made by Rotax.
I am kinda sad about this..I have always like the look of the firebolt..kinda into the street fighter looking bikes..never would have bought one solely because of the stigma attached due to the Harley link but still....
Very sad. In my life I have watched many popular motorcycle brands close up shop (Bultaco, CZ, Montesa, Ossa, Husqvarna(got bought out) just to name a few. It saddens me each time. In tough economic times like this I'm not surprised. -Cody
I've never owned a Buell. That video was hard to watch. Seemed weird though, like you were waiting for some jackass to jump out from behind Erik and yell "JUST KIDDING! Just kidding, srsly, we're just messin' with ya." Didn't happen.
I knew Harley Davidson had more to do with this than Eric led us to believe.... Apparently they're selling MV Agusta too... http://www.marketwatch.com/story/harley-posts-84-profit-drop-shuts-down-buell-2009-10-15 http://www.marketwatch.com/story/harley-davidson-cuts-two-brands-2009-10-15
