I have 3 trackdays under my belt @ THILL in C this year, and I'm aspired to test my skills in B. Is it true that B group is a more risky(er) group to polish teh skillz??? In C i pass most dudes, and some dudes pass me...but I usually find open track and I'm able to practice at a comfortable pace. But in B, is it true more riders are "trying" to ride and push a litter harder hence more danger... Input please.:bigear: Thanks gurus... Ron
I usually only recommend moving up when you are 90% faster than the group you are in. Granted the B group allows better passing rules (both inside and out with 6 foot bubble) but there are some FAST and aggressive B riders in there and the worry is the difference in speed as they are coming up to you. Don't EVER feel pressured to move up in a group prematurely. That's not fun for you OR them. I suggest testing it by being the first person out in C group and then seeing how many people catch and pass you each session. If it's only 2 or 3 you are good to move up. Any more than that then just stay in there until you aren't getting passed. If you have any doubts. Have someone time your lap times and compare them with 6 or 7 B groupers to see where you are at. You can apply this same logic to guys in B wanting to move to the A group. The bad thing about A is that there isn't any higher group to jump to so the SUPER fast guys are in there as well. -Cody P.S. The next Z2 trackday you come to, let me know and I'll be more than happy to work with you in ANY session. I'm sure with just a little help I can have you B group ready.
I hope you make it out to T-Hill with us on Nov 2nd bruh. I'll be working with everyone from our group.
Cody, great input! Next time out for sure I'll see you with my #2 pencil, we'll see if I'm ready for the test! hahha Thanks again man... E, all TDs have been with Z2. The instructors were always there after the first session, and they ask if I had any questions, but I never know what to ask. I think I've got some legit question to ask now, "Am I ready to move up?..." or maybe "How can I be faster?..."
Good stuff. Cody and the Z2 crew will take goodd care of u for sure. Keep workin with an instructor and you will advance. I know how ur feeling but def don't be in a rush. If you can't make infineon in december, try to make T-hill on Nov 2nd. I'd be happy work with you. Either way, you're in good hands. Great question to post btw. Lots of people have the same questions about advancing.
It's not easy Ron, sometimes you just need lots of laps at a track before you get to the point you know the turns enough to feel comfortable about asking questions. I usually try to ask "What are you having the most trouble with?" because that could be a certain turn, or throttle control, or braking, or body position. Generally I can follow someone and see what they need work on. I worked with Chris (StreetDesire) and after one session he chopped 30 seconds off his laptimes with just a couple tweaks. Sometimes that's all it takes. I look at it this way. When you first sit down to play a new video game you suck, but that's normal because you haven't played it before. But if your buddy that has been playing it for the last year sits down and helps you, you learn all the tricks to playing the game better. In this case (track days) I'll be your buddy to showing you the tricks. -Cody
Let's say I was ready to advance though... My original question was about B group in general. A is for the advance, mad skills, all fast cats... C is the novice, majority slow pace but you can find pockets of open track and go as fast as you like. And B is more of a unknown, right? You'll have guys with bigger differences in skill and pace, which is not so good... Intermidate/B Group Riders...are you more comfortable in B? or do you have more fun passing suckas in C?
B groupers, "I'ma let you finish" and chime in (LOL!) but the biggest reason I hear from people wanting to move up to B is "too much slower traffic in their way and they are limited to outside passes". -Cody
I started riding track in C group even though I was fast on the streets. That was a great move. My second trackday I moved to B group and found a larger swing in skill level but starting at the front if you think you are fast and having open track is great. if you are being passed alot maybe move down. I found I enjoy A group and start at the back to let the crazy fast guys go and work to never see them again as well as pass some folks. Once you find the group that fits your riding hang there till you are not having fun ie want faster guys to play with or need slower guys to pass. my .02
Yeah thats what I like! Open track. Getting into a rhythm and being in the zone. Nobody in your way, unimpedded, just flowing, yyyeeahhh...:drool5: Maybe thats just my skill level right now... Not fast enough to dice it up with the hardcore, but quick enough to escape the slow pokes... and hopefully find my zone inbetween. Sorry, just have to dream and talk about it for now , but I'll be back out there soon.:nopity:
Funny you mention that, Pacific Track Time instructors and regulars hold something like 12 of 16 AFM 2009 Championships. That's not a plug for PTT, just real talk. All l the providers are good and have a different niche.
Nobody is going down any roads. I give props to all the providers, instructors and patrons. Its all good and I'm glad to see more and more people going to the tracks to skill up. I love the sport and the people. I don't know all the other groups accomplishments but there are fast riders at all of them . Lovepeaceandchickengrease
Just got laid off Friday, no track day fun for me homey! I'll be there for moral support for everyone though. Maybe someone will let me sneek in a session on thier scooter? I'll bring my leathers just in case , wink wink!
Damn Chance. I'm sorry dawg. This economy is getting so many of my friends. All bad. I hope you make it out with us. I can't allow any rule breaking cuz that's all bad. But we can get you on the track for the sickest ride of your life with the fastest rider in the AFM. U know, the guy bunny hopping his bike over the cyclone, dragging elbows and tire smoking power slides..... Dawg, you will have .... Probably a load in your pants but it will be worth it. Bring your leathers
